Akoma Day is a seven day holiday celebration of Black Love observed during February as a cultural alternative to Valentines Day. The focus of the holiday is to restore Black Love as the primordial example of love personified. Although officially celebrated for one week from February 14th to February 20th, the holiday is to be embodied throughout the year as a tool to attain the pinnacle level of Love in all relationships.The symbols of the holiday include:Meza wa Akoma (alter)- The Akoma alter is a table or flat surface that serves as the symbolic unbreakable foundation for Black Love and literal resting place for the other symbols.Mfuno wa Akoma (cloth)- The Akoma cloth is a fabric used to cover the alter. This covering symbolizes a protective veil that offers a shield to Black love in a foreign/hostile environment.Akoma Adinkra Symbol- The Akoma is an Akan term from Ghana used to describe the spiritual heart and is a symbol of love, goodwill, patience, and endurance. Sankofa Adinkra Symbol- This symbol is a salient reminder that it is necessary to reach back to the past to build the future. It symbolizes returning to the source of a thing in order to attain mastery.Kombe wa Akoma (libation cup)- The ceremonial cup will be used to give praise to the ancestral and present examples of Black love personified. Mishumma wa Akoma (candle) Colors- 3 Red for passion 3 Pink for love 1 White for purity and unificationAgano wa Akoma (pledge)- This pledge declares the commitment to uphold Black love in mind, body and soul.Mer Khut (pyramid)- The pyramid epitomizes the perfection of Black love that can only be achieved through committed work and service. The symbol also represents the holy trinity in infinite manifestations.Ubele wa Akoma (feather)- This symbol signifies the profound spirit of Black love characterized by forgiveness.Kipepeo wa Akoma (butterfly) - This symbol denotes the grace, beauty, and fluidity of love transformation.Mwanzi wa Akoma (bamboo plant)- This plant represents the strength and flexibility of Black love. Hiba wa Akoma (keepsakes)- These are pictures, jewelry, and/or personal items that represent the loving testament of the Black family.Mazao wa Akoma (fruit)- The fruit symbolizes the bountiful harvest of the labor of Black Love.Uchungu (cayenne)- Represents the bitterness of Black Love's trials.Utamo (honey)- Represents the sweetness of Black Loves triumphs.Maji (water)- Represents the consistent balance between the trials and triumphs of Black Love.

The Akoma altar and the related symbols should be displayed in the home, office or temple for a period of 7 days to represent the oneness of Black love exemplified by the seven virtues and principles of the Akoma holiday.

Akoma House workshops are interactive presentations for couples or singles designed to provide a "snap shot" introduction to the Soul Mate Curriculum. Conversations include dating, courting, mating, and exporing relationship cycles. They are held at satelite locations in your area! Akoma House retreats are invigorating couples retreats held in intimate locations around the United States. The SoulMating "get-away" offers a rejuvenating 3 day vacation format for transforming your intimate relationship. During the experience, couples have the opportunity to receive liberating insight in a nurturing setting. You and your partner will recieve personal attention while benefiting from the experiences and wisdom of other couples similarly committed to the success of their relationships.Akoma House offers a distinctive experience for both new and seasoned couples! The weekend provides three transformative workshops (from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon) while allowing ample private time for couples to practice new tools, enjoy their accommodations, and venture into the surrounding area for dining and shopping.The Soul Mate Curriculumis a mulit-tired progression that offers a cultural perspective for the ascension of your relationship.Tier One- This workshop introdudes the "Orodha Ya Hisi" (The Register of Senses), clarifying goals, discover your "relationship personality", and understanding your unified purpose. You will learn how to break old patterns and breakthrough to the relationship of your desires!! Techniques for increasing trust and effective communication are also explored.Tier Two- This workshop delves deeper in the areas of "Intimate Communication and Sacred Sexuality", offering couples specific tools (and the time to practice ) intimacy using all SEVEN senses. In addition to the unified experience, there will be gender specific blocks (men only & women only) designed to reveal and enhance "role effectiveness " within your union, as well as develope cooperative fellowships. Prerequisite: Akoma House Tier One WorkshopTier Three- This workshop challenges the couple to "Legacy Build" and deepen the foundation laid in the previous tiers. At this level couples work collectively to build a community of consious architects that will usher in new models of human interaction for the coming age.Prerequisite: Akoma House Tier Two Workshop The cost includes breakfast, accommodations, and gift basket. Baby Massage Four- Week Course

*(this course can be adjusted to a seminar or one session workshop)

New babies need regular massage. Babies around the world are massaged for up to a year after they are born. In most traditions, massage is done for at least 40 days after delivery.

Baby massage stimulates the growing immune and nervous systems and provides critical emotional nourishment. Massage is relaxing, helps with tummy troubles and promotes healthy bonding with parents and caregivers.

This program allows young children to explore their creativity through building, painting, drawing, sculpting and jewelry making! Art projects will enhance childrens geography and history knowledge by fusing the 7 senses with multicultural projects and education.

The Akoma

The Akoma is an Adinkra symbol from Ghana, West Africa.

Adinkra symbology uses pictorial language to express folktales, philosophies, morals and culture. Unlike reading in English, (decoding, pronouncing words and creating images in your mind) pictorial languages allow the "reader" to absorb both the subtle and profound interpretations of a symbol upon first sight.

The image we know as the "heart" has been used for thousands of years!

This silver coin dates to 510 BC and was found in the excavation of the Sanctuary of Demeter and Persephone at Cyrene. The coin's design is one of the few surviving images of a seed pod of the extinct Silphium plant. The plant had many medicinal uses, including being used as an herbal contraceptive and sensual stimulant.

The "heart" has also been a symbol of consciousness and soul for thousands of years!

In this classical African example, the heart of the deceased was weighed against a feather. If the heart balanced against the feather (the principle of truth and justice), the deceased had lived a just life. If the heart was heavy, (full of wrongdoings, ills, etc.) the balance would sink and the heart would be devoured by the beast Ammit. This is the origin of the expression "Keep your heart as light as a feather".

Wildflowers Wild Flowers Program Rites of Passage programs help young people direct their energies toward positive goals for their lives. Young women deserve a place where they are encouraged to come together to express themselves, to dream, to feel honored and to be celebrated! The Wildflowers Program is a fusion of culture, etiquette and refinement for young ladies. The program explores several important topics relevant to girls lives as they mature and prepare to participate in their communities as women. This charm and etiquette course is designed to promote unity and support friendship among young women while addressing the weeds that can grow in any garden (low self-esteem, poor body image, unhealthy relationships, and obesity). Guided by principles of peace, joy and creativity, the ladies will leave with a deeper awareness of self, family, and community. Discussions will include: choosing values and purpose; conflict resolution; goal setting; building healthy relationships; journaling; dance and movement; health and nutrition; jewelry making; and talent sharing! The group will also be offered supplementary field trips and design their own community service project! What are Wild Flowers? Flowers that grow on their own in nature are called wildflowers. They are unique breeds that thrive in many different types of environments. They are able to survive the desert sun in Phoenix or the cold shade in Aspen. There are thousands of wildflowers in North America that come in many different shapes, sizes and colors. In spite of these differences, wildflowers are able to share space and make beautiful natural arrangements out of their landscapes! No matter their origin, wildflowers share one common distinction: they are equipped to grow on their own when supported by a natural environment.
